How to find a cpa?

I spent about $8000 on my credit card for my company. Our company is small so we dont have a company CC. Reason why its expensive is because I bought a desktop, laptop ( to carry around with me to show clients ), copy/printer machine, a cell phone and other things that I need for this business. I told my boss that I will be buying this with my card, he said it was ok and that we have a CPA. Now, hes saying I need to get a CPA. I told him that dont we have a cpa and he said we do but it doesnt cover personal but only business. Will a CPA help me reimburse my bill for items that is only company related? or something else? I heard its $80 fee to meet a CPA.
My employer said that if I show him the receipt and the transaction he will help me out but then he mentioned something about end of the year all at once with my cpa, I dont know what he meant.
I just want the stuff I bought with my own card for business to be compensated. Or I will end up paying $7000 back for a long time since each month is interest goes up.

Answer
Your CPA can provide many things including tax planning, year end financial statements, payroll (should you pay yourself and/or an employee), answer financial questions, etc. Since you purchased items for the business you can deduct them through depreciation. There are certain formulas that are followed.

I went to a lawyer to start up a corporation and he told me for tax planning get to an accountant first and find the best suitable business entity. An accountant will give me a clear view of what's possible. Keep in mind, most small businesses fail due to lack organization of financial record-keeping and not knowing where they financially stand.

If you attempt to do things without a professional or don't get the proper education, you can sabotage your business. For example, while working in an CPA's office there were at least five clients whose Quickbooks weren't set up the correct way (the bookkeeper did it-most used excuse). Now they have to pay for time to re-enter information.

Save money by calling the accountant's office and find out what category most of the clientele are in (self-employed, corporations, employed). Find out how he/she treats employees. Because if they are disrespectful, they will be disrespectful about you to the employees.

Will the accountant provide financial data that will tell you if you are running in the red or that your cashflow could be changed? Will he or she be an advisor or just provide services based on fees? Is their technology up to date (the guy I worked for used a dot matrix printer and an accounting program from 1983)? Shop around, 15-60 minute consultation will be worth it. A firm here in my town stole $25,000 from a local business.

If you decide to bypass an accountant, take classes if you have the time, especially Quickbooks and Accounting 101. If you should be flagged for an audit, have your financial records pristine.
