How to Choose a Prepaid Mastercard

The economic downturn has caused businesses to close which affects all of us.  Whether you have lost a job or not, everyone is struggling financially.  'Going from paycheck to paycheck', a reference to barely having enough money to cover the mortgage, utilities and food, is becoming the norm for many people.

What is a Prepaid Mastercard?

A Prepaid Mastercard is a similar to a debit card with one major difference.  The pre paid card has an original amount in its balance that you set when you purchase the card.  Once the money value has been depleted, you must add money to contain to use the card.

The Benefits of a Prepaid Mastercard

There are many benefits of a Prepaid Mastercard.  It is very convenient to purchase since they are sold at major stores such as Wal-Mart or Walgreens.  You can customize your Prepaid Mastercard with the amount that fits your budget.   It is a popular choice among parents of college students. Another benefit that helps many people is that the card works well with people who are trying to control their budget.   Money cannot be spent if it is not available.  It makes a person very accountable for every purchase.  It is also a great benefit for those who do not have a regular credit card, but prefer not to carry cash.

Special Considerations

Some stores such as Wal-Mart have their own Prepaid Mastercard.  Be cognizant of the special fees and terms attached to these cards.  Other fees or costs of certain cards can add up as well.  They include the set-up cost and the monthly fees.  Another consideration is how convenient is it to reload a Prepaid Mastercard with additional money.  If it is a hassle, it will not work for your best interest.

What is my recourse if a USPS package is stolen from my porch?

A package was delivered to my residence and left on the porch in the afternoon, by the time I got home that night it was gone. I purchased the item online with my MasterCard, from the site betamonline.com using Google Checkout. The USPS is saying, "Too bad, we left it at your house and someone else stole it, since it was no longer in our possession it's not our responsibility". MasterCard offers protection for stolen goods purchased with the card, but it doesn't cover items in transit with a third party, or items left in public, out of arms reach. They're saying that since it was in public and not in my direct possession that it's not covered. I've emailed betamonline and Google, but have yet to receive an answer with them. I've also filed a police report... What are my possible avenues for recourse? Is MasterCard's interpretation of the policy correct in regard to my situation?
To the person who mentioned the tracking number and calling UPS: The shipment was actually made by USPS, and yes I have a tracking number. That's how I originally found out that the delivery had been made. On Tuesday I checked the status online, and it showed that the package had been delivered Monday. I've called and visited my local post office. The best they could give me is the number for the Postal Inspection office to report the theft, and a time to call back to talk to my carrier. To Milla: you're probably right, talking to as many people as possible at the involved companies is probably the best idea.

Answer
Sorry to hear that....did you authorize them to leave it on your porch? If not fight for it... I would also keep calling both companies....you get different responses with different people. Someone might be nice and help you out :-)
