Keep in mind when you go on vacation or decide to take a little bit of a road trip you can always get national car rentals. It gives you the opportunity to drive a car that maybe under normal conditions you would not be able to normally drive. If you rent a car it can make you see and feel like a million dollars! Let's say if you own a company and are going to meeting, why not use national car rentals and impress them (I am sure you will seal the deal). You could even consider it to just get away for the weekend. Many reasons and things people do to rent cars, but keep in mind that you have a few things that could get in the car.
National car rentals companies will usually not even rent to someone that is under the age of 25. It can be a real downer for someone that had plans to rent a car for spring break, but its okay, just find an older adult who can rent the car for you. National car rentals usually have no problem with this.
It should be a common fact that a driver's license is necessary to rent a car. It may sound wild but there actually exit people who think that can go to a rental agency without a license! National car rentals will not let you rent a car without a major credit card as well so make sure you have someone else to rent it for you if you do not have one available.
National car rentals will require that you have your own personal car insurance. They will offer you their own insurance plan but you might as well just call your agent and find out if your policy covers car rentals. Usually you are covered but unfortunately I cannot offer you insurance advice in this format. But I can say that if your policy covers it there is no need to buy coverage through their company and this will actually save you a lot of money in the long run. You now know something that national car rentals won't normally tell you about.
If you are going to deal with national car rentals companies some good advice is to make sure you call ahead and ask questions. Whether it is about prices or availability, you don't want to run all the way to the agency and find out the car you wanted is no longer there. You might even get stuck with a car from 1920, no one wants that.
Once everything has been decided and you are ready to get your car. I would recommend making sure you have all the right paperwork. Definitely you will need a copy of your declarations page for your insurance policy, if you don't have it, you could be a position where they mandate that you purchase theirs. In all, don't let national car rentals fool you, go out there and get what you want!

Accident in a Rental Car?
I am 25, rented a car from AVIS, and was in an accident.
I declined all of AVIS insurance options, because the credit card I used has: Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver.
I had an accident (BOO!).
It was the fault of the other driver, but because of the state it happened in, WASHINGTON DC, the police were not able to file a report.
I am wondering what will happen next.
The damage to the rental car was very minimal, and will be covered by my credit card company. But what about the damage to the other car?
The car was insured, and the person driving it also had their own car insurance (as it was not their vehicle).
I have no car insurance. So what will happen?
Instead of being half and half liable, will I be 100% liable because I dont have my own insurance? just the Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver from my credit card?
NEW DETAILS: The other company has put me at fault, because their driver was on the main road, and I was on an access road.
They also have a witness (who knows where he came from, there was no witness when the cops were around).
And NO, cops in Washington DC do not make reports for car accident unless injury occured because they are not recognized as a state, and the reports aren't accepted by insurance.
So, right now looks like I am liable.
I just hope my credit car insurance covers more than just the car I was driving (but i think it doesn't).
Answer
Once again, insurance goes with vehicles, not drivers for the most part. When you rent a car from a rental company, it is covered under their insurance. You have the option of getting additional coverage that covers things that are your fault, basically collision coverage. SInce it was not your fault, the person at fault will be covering it.
And regardless of state, the police can file a report after an accident.
